Yesterday, Apple launched the sixth beta of macOS 10.15 Catalina. Beta 6 was released to developers more than two weeks after the company seeded the fifth macOS Catalina beta and over a month after the upcoming macOS Catalina was presented at the WWDC.
Hours after Apple launched Beta 6 for testing purposes, the company released the sixth public beta of macOS Catalina, which is already available to beta testers.
Users can download macOS Catalina beta 6 via the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences. Identically to all new betas, Apple advises users not to install macOS Catalina on primary machines because the early release software usually has bugs.
As previously mentioned, macOS Catalina removes the iTunes app for good, splitting it into Music, Podcasts, and TV applications. The Apple Music and Apple Podcasts apps are available now, while Apple TV will be launched later this year.
The new separate apps function similarly to iTunes, however, they are split up by feature. The iOS device management remains available on Mac, though, it’s now done through Finder instead of iTunes.
By using the new Sidecar feature, users can turn their iPad into a second display for their Mac with just a button click. Apple Pencil also works with Sidecar, so an iPad can be immediately turned into a drawing tablet in applications like Illustrator and Photoshop.
Apple Watch can be used to approve security prompts in macOS Catalina, and Macs with a T2 chip support Activation Lock. Additionally, the new Find My Mac app is brought to the Mac for the first time, allowing users to track their devices when they’re offline.
Screen Time is also available on Mac and iOS devices, and Project Catalyst will let developers port their iPad apps directly to the Mac.
A new Photos interface surfaces users best photos organized by day, month, or year, a new Safari start page has been added, the Mail has new tools for muting email threads and blocking senders, and the Reminders application has been modernized.
