On Friday, November 1, Apple TV+ was officially launched. Users can now subscribe for $4.99 per month, after a 7-day trial. However, with the big launch, Apple also gave start to a huge free promotion – users with Apple devices bought after September 10, 2019, will get a whole year of TV+ for free. The thing is, after the launch, this promotion did not go smoothly.

To take advantage of the free year of Apple TV+, all eligible users have to simply open the TV app on the newly purchased device and select the ‘Enjoy Free Year‘ offer promoted in the application. It’s important to note that this is a one-year free trial, instead of the standard one for seven days, so you’ll get charged $4.99 on the day the trial ends, unless you cancel the subscription before it renews.

Here’s what the fuss was all about. There have been reports from users, who claim that they were able to take advantage of the offer, even though their devices were not purchased after September 10. Other users, who were eligible for the offer, got a seven-day trial, instead of an entire year. There were also reports from users, which could not see the offer in their TV app at all.

If you own an eligible iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, or iPod touch, purchased directly from Apple or an authorized seller since September 10, but don’t see the offer in the TV app, here’s a few things you should try, to resolve the problem:

  • Force-quit the application and launch it again.
  • Sign out of your Apple ID and sign back in. Then, relaunch the TV app.
  • Sign in at tv.apple.com online.

If none of the things work for you, you should contact Apple Support for further assistance. Make sure to attach proof of eligible purchase, to make the process easier and faster.

If you are not as lucky to be able to benefit from the free offer, don’t worry, Currently, Apple TV+ allows users to watch the first two episodes of the available shows for free. But if you want to watch entire seasons, you’ll have to pay the subscription fee.
