It can be frustrating when you plug in your headphones in your mac and they either don’t work, or the audio still comes from the computer’s speakers. Do not worry, there is a simple solution to this frustrating problem.
Changing Your Sound Preferences:
- First, go to your toolbar at the bottom of your screen and select System Preferences (gray icon with gears).
- Now, select the “Sound” icon in System Preferences (System Preferences > Sound).
3. In this tab, click on the Output option near the top of the tab. It will bring you to your audio device manager (reference the image under step 4 if you have trouble finding the output tab selection).
4. Select your audio device by name in the list that you would like to use (If it is not there, unplug it, wait a couple of seconds, and then plug it back in).
5. Once it is selected, look at the bottom of the window and if the Mute box is checked off, unselect it by clicking the mute box so the X disappears.
6. You can also control the volume of the device from this menu (It is the slider located left of the Mute box).
This works both on audio devices that use 3.5mm headphone jack and USB. I hope this helped, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
